Tak tu máte niešo z histórie o break dance. Trošku nuda, ale nie všetci to poznajú. Pojem break dance alebo breakdance označuje viaceré formy tanca, ktoré vznikli medzi afroamerickou a portorikánskou mládežou v USA v 70. rokoch 20. storočia. Vyznačuje sa akrobatickými prvkami.
Break dance predstavuje pre mladých formu úteku zo stereotypného anonymného života veľkomesta. Vznik a rozvoj tohto tanca je neodmysliteľne spätý so subkultúrou hip-hopu. Medzi najznámejšie breakerské skupiny patria Rock Steady Crew, New York City Breakers alebo South Side Rockers.
Breakdance sa dá rozčleniť do nasledovných foriem :
Breaking* "Breaking / B-boying" (pôvod v Južnom Bronxe, New York) je riskantná forma tanca, ktorá obsahuje akrobatické prvky (točenie na hlave, chrbte…). Tancuje sa na čo najhladšej, čistej ploche, používa sa aj silikónový sprej ktorý umožňuje zvýšiť kĺzavosť tanečnej plochy.
* "Poping", "Locking" a "Electric Boogie" (pôvod v Los Angeles, Kalifornia) predstavuje mechanické pohyby podobné fiktívnym pohybom robota, ďalej gestikuláciu a napodobňovanie pohybov bábiek či komixových figurie
Breakdance obsahuje veľké množstvo rôznych prvkov :
* "Uprocking" - fiktívne bojovanie proti súperovi, provokačná gestikulácia, napodobňovanie bitky:
* "Toprock" - tancovanie v stoji :
V tomto prípade je to robo z nasej crew
Pri súťažiach v break dance proti sebe nastupujú jednotlivci alebo skupiny (tzv. crews). Obvykle sa utvorí kruh, do ktorého vbiehajú tanečníci a predvádzajú svoje schopnosti. Neexistujú presné pravidlá, platí len zákaz úmyselného dotyku súpera. Pri medzinárodných súťažiach o víťazovi rozhoduje odborná porota.
Najväčšou súťažou na svete je "Battle Of The Year (B.O.T.Y)", medzi ďalšie patria Freestyle Session a Soul Expression.
